Mandate
To enforce mining, explosives and safety regulations and provide engineering services that promote safe mining.
Key functions
- Enforce mining, explosives and safety regulations in line with the Explosives Act.
- Provide technical services in mechanical, electrical, mine surveying and ventilation engineering.
- Coordinate mine rescue and emergency response services.
- Conduct statutory competency examinations for mining professionals.
- Promote safe mining practices through inspections, outreach and technology support.
- Attend and investigate accidents to prevent recurrence; administer the MILF plant hire scheme.
